Tongue twisters with U
This set of tongue twisters with U is slightly different from most other letters because of the different sounds that U can make in the English language. Below you will find words that use long U sounds as well as short U sounds. These include –
Short U words /ʌ/ – cut, hut, mug, and tuck
/ʊ/ – put, full, bull, and push
Long U words /uː/ – flu, truth, rule, and due.
There are also words that have the er sound /ɜː/ – fur, hurl, curl, and turn.
It should be noted that there are some regional differences, depending on which part of the world the English speaker lives in. This is mostly common in long U words.
