Tongue twisters with Q
Here we have some tongue twisters with Q for some pronunciation practise and quirky fun. These twisters mainly use the /kw/ sound that is found in the majority of QU words. There are however a few exceptions where the combination of the letter Q and U make the/k/ sound.
We should note that the combination of Q and U is known a consonant blend or cluster of two sounds that can be pronounced differently. Examples of these phonetics include words such as –
/kw/ – question, quart, quiet, and quill.
/k/ – quiche, opaque, quay, racquet, and lacquer.
How to make the /kw/ sound
To start, purse your lips close together as though to make a W sound. Keep your tongue at the bottom of your mouth. Blow air out of your mouth while makeing a voiceless k ( there should be no vibration in your throat). Put your fingers on your throat to make sure of this. The /k/ sound should come from the back of your mouth as you open and widen your lips as you push the sound out through your lips as they widen.
