Long tongue twisters

There is a huge collection of tongue twisters on this site, although many of them are quite short, being only a sentence or two. Which are great, especially if they are repeated several times over. On this page, some long twisters have been added, which can prove to be quite difficult for some. See how you or your students fare reading these aloud; it is hard not to make any mistakes!

 

The long tongue twisters are –

 

1 – My dame Jane has a lame tame crane. My dame Jane has a crane that is lame in pain with a sprain. The lame tame crane is in a main lane in the rain. Pray, Jane, let my dame’s tame crane feed on grain and come home again.

 

2 – A maid with a duster made a furious bluster, dusting a bust in the hall. When the bust was dusted, the bust was busted. The bust was just dust in the hall, that’s all. Only a duster busted the bust next to the wall in the hall.

 

3 – Ned Nott was shot, and Sam Shott was not. So, it is better to be Shott than Nott. Some say Nott was not shot, but Shott says he shot Nott. Either the shot Shott shot at Nott was not shot, or Nott was shot. If the shot Shott shot shot Nott, Nott was shot. But if the shot Shott shot shot Shott, then Shott was shot, not Nott. However, the shot Shott shot shot not Shott but not Nott.

 

4 – Bill had a billboard. Bill also had a board bill. The board bill bored Bill, so Bill sold his billboard and paid his board bill. Then the board bill no longer bothered Bill. But though he had no board bill, neither did he have his billboard!

 

5 – Federal Express is now called FedEx. When I retire, I’ll be a FedEx ex. But if I’m an officer when I retire, I’ll be an ex-FedEx Exec. Then, after a divorce, my ex-wife will be an ex-FedEx exec’s ex. If I rejoin FedEx in time, I’d be an ex ex FedEx exec. When we remarry, my wife will be an ex ex FedEx exec’s ex.

 

6 – Bandy-legged Borachio Mustachio Whiskerifusticus, the Bald and Brave Bombandino of Bagdad, helped Abomilique Bluebeard Bashaw of Babelmandel to beat down an abominable bumblebee at Balsora.

 

7 – You’ve no need to light a night¬light on a light night like tonight. For a night¬light’s light’s a slight light, And tonight’s a night that’s light. When a night’s light, like tonight’s light, it is really not quite right to light night¬lights with their slight lights on a light night like tonight.

 

8 – Theophilus Thisdedown, the successful thistle sifter, in sifting a sieve of unsifted thistles, thrust three thousand thistles through the thick of his thumb. If, then, Theophilus Thistledown, the successful thistle sifter, thrust three thousand thistles through the thick of his thumb, see that in sifting a sieve of thistles, do not get the unsifted thistles stuck in thy thumb.

 

9 – Something in a thirty-acre thermal thicket of thorns and thistles thumped and thundered, threatening the three thoughts of Matthew the thug. Although theatrically, it was only the thirteen-thousand thistles and thorns through the underneath of his thigh that the thirty-year-old thug thought of that morning.

 

10- A tall eastern girl named Short long loved a big Mr. Little. But Little, thinking little of Short, loved a little lass named Long. To belittle Long, Short announced she would marry Little before long. This caused Little to shortly marry Long. To make a long story short, did tall Short love big Little less because Little loved little Long more?

 

11- Mr. See owned a saw, and Mr. Soar owned a seesaw. Now See’s saw sawed Soar’s seesaw before Soar saw See. Which made Soar sore. Had Soar seen See’s saw before See sawed Soar’s seesaw, See’s saw would not have sawed Soar’s seesaw. So, See’s saw sawed Soar’s seesaw. But it was a shame to see Soar so sore just because See’s saw sawed Soar’s seesaw.

Long tongue twisters continued

12- Shrewd Simon Short sewed shoes. Seventeen summers saw Simon’s small, shabby shop still standing, saw Simon’s selfsame squeaking sign still swinging swiftly. Simon’s spouse, Sally Short, sewed sheets, stitched shirts, and stuffed sofas. Simon’s stout, sturdy sons—Stephen, Samuel, Saul, and Silas sold sundries. Stephen sold silks, satins, and shawls. Samuel sold saddles and stirrups. Saul sold silver spoons as specialties. Silas sold Sally Short’s stuffed sofas.

Simon’s second son, Samuel, saw Sophia Sophronia Spriggs somewhere. Sweet, sensible, smart Sophia Sophronia Spriggs. Sam soon showed strange symptoms. Surprisingly, Sam sighed sorrowfully, sang several serenades slyly, and sought Sophia Spriggs’ society, seldom stood selling saddles.

 

13- If you understand, say “understand”. If you don’t understand, say “don’t understand”. But if you understand and say “don’t understand”, how do I understand that you understand? Understand!?

 

14- Esaw Wood sawed wood. Esaw Wood would saw wood. Oh, the wood that Wood would saw! One day, Esaw Wood saw a saw saw wood as no other wood saw Wood ever saw would saw wood. Of all the wood saws Wood ever saw saw wood, Wood never saw a wood saw that would saw like the wood saw Wood saw would. Now Esaw saws with that saw he saw saw wood.

 

15- As I went into the garden, I saw five brave maids sitting on five broad beds braiding broad braids. I said to these five brave maids sitting on five broad beds braiding broad braids, “Braid broad braids, brave maids.

 

16- Amidst the mists and coldest frosts, with barest wrists and stoutest boasts, he thrusts his fists against the posts. But still insists he sees the ghosts amidst the mist beside the post.

 

17- To sit in solemn silence in a dull, dark dock. In a penitentiary prison with a lifelong lock. Awaiting the sensation of a short, sharp shock from a cheap and chippy chopper on a big black block.

 

18- How much wood could Chuck Woods’ woodchuck chuck, if Chuck Woods’ woodchuck could and would chuck wood? If Chuck Woods’ woodchuck could and would chuck wood, how much wood could and would Chuck Woods’ woodchuck chuck? Chuck Woods’ woodchuck would chuck, he would, as much as he could, and chuck as much wood as any woodchuck would, if a woodchuck could and would chuck wood.

 

19- Big Bobby Bippy bought a bat. Big Bobby Bibby bought a ball. With his bat, Bobby Bippy banged the ball and banged it bump against the wall. But so boldly big Bobby Bippy banged it that he burst his rubber ball. “Boo!” cried Bobby Bippy, bad luck ball, bad luck Bobby Bippy, bad luck ball. Now to drown his many troubles, Bobby Bippy’s blowing big ball bubbles. Big Bobby Bippy’s big ball bubbles burst against a big brick wall.

 

20- Yellow butter, purple jelly, red jam, black bread. Spread it thick, say it quick! Yellow butter, purple jelly, red jam, black bread. Spread it thicker, say it quicker! Yellow butter, purple jelly, red jam, black bread.

 

22- Oh, the sadness of her sadness when she’s sad. Oh, the gladness of her gladness when she’s glad. But the sadness of her sadness, and the gladness of her gladness, are nothing like her madness when she’s mad!

 

23- There once was a man who had a sister, his name was Mr. Fister. Mr. Fister’s sister sold seashells by the seashore. Mr. Fister didn’t sell seashells; he sold silk sheets. Mr. Fister told his sister that he sold six silk sheets to six sheiks. The sister of Mr. Fister said I sold six shells to six sheiks, too!

 

24- If you stick a stock of liquor in your locker, it is slick to stick a lock upon your stock. Or some joker who is slicker is going to trick you out of your liquor if you fail to lock your liquor with a lock.

 

25- Give me the gift of a grip-top sock, A clip drape shipshape tip top sock. Not your super slick slapstick slipshod stock, but a plastic, elastic grip-top sock. None of your fantastic slack swap slop, from a slapdash flash cash haberdasher shop.

Not a knick-knack knitlock, knock need knickerbocker sock, with a mock-shot blob-mottled trick-ticker top clock. Not a super sheet seersucker rucksack sock. Not a spot-speckled frog-freckled cheap sheik’s sock, off a hodge-podge moss-blotched scotch-botched block. Nothing slipshod, drip drop flip flop or glip glop. Tip me to a tip-top grip top sock.
