Color by shapes worksheets

Here are some great activities that help kids learn both shapes and colors while having fun at the same time. The majority of these printables are designed for kindergarten, preschool, and early elementary students. Young learners will also get some valuable fine motor skills practice as they complete the color by shapes worksheets. There are, however, a couple of slightly harder PDFs at the bottom of this page.

Each page has a key or legend showing which color each shape should be. If children are not yet able to read these words, it is not a problem. You can either tell them verbally which colors they should be, or simply color in the squares in the key for them so that they can see for themselves.

Another option is to cut the coloring keys off altogether and create your own. You can color in the shapes you have cut off and use them as a new guide. This is a good idea if you are focusing on teaching a certain set of colors and want to reinforce that vocabulary.

To help teach the main concepts here, you may also want to use the shapes flashcards and the colors flashcards to help your class or child learn and recognise both of these things.

Color by shape worksheets for kids

First up, we have very easy worksheets for young children. They only use 4 or 5 shapes and colors and have basic designs. At the top of the page, there is a kite which needs its tail colored in, while below there is an insect that looks like a ladybug and a truck which appears to have a radar dish on its roof.

Next, we have a cute puppy dog face with four whiskers. Beside that is what appears to be a stained glass window, but it could be many things, such as a wheel, or a gemstone, if you use your imagination!

Below, there is a very simple plane made of shapes that is perfect for kindergarten-aged kids due to its simplicity. Then there is a house with trees and a sun, which is somewhat harder.

Now, here are some color by shapes printables with an ocean theme. There is a crab with its claws open and a small ship. The windows of the ship don’t need to be colored in, but you could add that to the activity if you wanted to.

The 2 pages below are not so easy. There is a school building with many windows that has 7 shapes and colors. Next to that is a slightly different activity that also involves counting. This worksheet uses rectangles, diamonds, stars, triangles, squares, hexagons, ovals, trapezoids, circles, and semicircles. If they are able, children can write the numbers of each shape in or above the guide at the bottom of the worksheet. Harder color by shape worksheets

Finally, we have a couple of more challenging pages. While these coloring sheets only use 6 different shapes and colors, they are far more detailed. The pictures are broken up into small sections with even smaller shapes inside them that show how they should be colored in.

These are best suited to elementary-level students and take a fair bit of time to finish. The drawings are also somewhat hidden. The first page below reveals a worker holding a trowel and a brick in his hands. The second picture is of a bear floating in the sky by holding balloons. There are also some butterflies and clouds around the bear. They are both rather cute pictures.
