This is a good conversation topic for late teenagers, adults, and older students. Everyone has phobias and things they are scared of. Who is afraid of what amongst your friends, colleagues, and class members?

Some difficult words on this worksheet are phobia, conquer, react, heights, require, and overcome. Note that some of the questions about fears below have been expanded.

 

The fears conversation questions are  –

 

1 – Are you afraid of heights? How high is too high for you?

2 – Have you ever been on a scary ride?

3 – Are you afraid of death? Why do you think it scares you?

4 – Which animal do you most fear? How can it hurt you?

5 – What were you afraid of as a small child?

6 – Do you like horror movies? What is the scariest movie you have seen?

7 –What is your biggest fear in life? Do you think you will overcome this fear?

8 – Are there any illnesses you are afraid of?

9 – Do you know anyone with a phobia? What are they afraid of?

10 – Which do you fear the most, hospitals or dentists? What scares you about them?

11 – Are you afraid of speaking English? How can you become more confident?

12 – Are you afraid of getting old? How will your life be different when you are old?

13 – What is the most terrifying experience you have ever had? Who were you with?

14 – What kinds of things make you a little nervous?

15 – How would you react if you saw a ghost? Do you believe in them?

16 – Do you think people can overcome their fears? How can they do this?

17 – Do you know anyone with a strange fear? What is it of?

18 – Are there any scary places in your hometown? Have you visited these places?

19 – How do you feel about flying? Would you ever go skydiving?

20 – What are your parents afraid of? Do you know why they fear these things?

21 – What fear would you like to conquer?

22 – Are you afraid of speaking in public? Could you speak in front of 1000 people?

23 – What activities can you think of that require no fear? Would you like to try any?

24 – Has fear ever stopped you from doing something? What was it?

Here are some further questions about things people are afraid of and what they and animals find scary.

1 – Is there any place where you would be afraid of sleeping alone for a night? Where and why?

4 – Have you ever felt afraid of the weather? What kind of natural disaster do you fear the most?

5 – What do you think cats are afraid of? What would you say elephants fear?

6 – Have you ever been so afraid that you started shaking or screamed? What happened?

7 – Do you know anyone who you would say is fearless? Why do you think so?

8 – What is something that a friend of yours fears but you do not?

9 – Is there anything that you used to fear when you were younger but now do not?
