Ideas for using the free dinosaur outlines
The dinosaur outline printables can be used in all manner of ways. If you don’t have a plan already, go ahead and try one of these interesting ideas with your class or at home.
Shadow puppets. Once you have printed and cut out some dinosaur shapes, attach them to popsicle sticks or something similar to use as handles. By using a lamp or flashlight, you can project the shadows onto walls.
Coloring/Decorating. Kids will love coloring in and adding details to these outlines. For extra fun, get them to glue or sticky tape different objects inside the shapes to give them a 3-dimensional effect. You can use strips of paper, cut up colored plastic, pasta, beads, glitter, leaves, pretty much anything that is on hand.
Murals. Use the templates to decorate a classroom or bedroom wall with dinosaurs or make a prehistoric scene. Use the printables either as stencils or color/decorate them and stick the shapes to your desired surface. You may even want to add some dinosaur footprints!
Identification. As a learning exercise, see if children can identify the dinosaurs in the templates. Afterwards they can write their names on them. There are some free dinosaur flashcards here at ESL Vault to help with this activity.
Flashcards. Make learning the ABC, numbers, or CVC words much more interesting by writing them inside the dinosaur templates and using them as flashcards. You could even use them to play a dinosaur-themed game of hopscotch!
String/Staw tracing. Instead of tracing the shapes with a pen or pencil, as learners to use a pice of string. The can stick it to the printed page with glue or tape. A nice variation of this is to use drinking straws. In this case learners must cut the straws into different lengths to follow the curves of the drawings.
