Gorgons/Medusas: These female creatures with serpentine hair come from ancient Greek mythology. They were said to turn a person into stone if they looked at them. Medusa is the most famous of these gorgon creatures.
The Loch Ness Monster: This famed creature is said to inhabit the Ness lake in Scotland. It appears to look somewhat like a Diplodocus dinosaur, and people are still looking for evidence that it exists to this day.
An Elf: Elves seem to come from German folklore. They are both beautiful and magical creatures or spirits. Some mythology portrays them as bad, but most say that they are good beings that are very intelligent.
Fairies: Fairies or Faeries are of European origin and are particularly known in Celtic mythology. They are said to exist between the spirit and human world. Many cultures describe them as beautiful and elegant, although some do the opposite.
A Genie: The name of this creature comes from the term djinn, which is Arabic and from where its mythology originated. They are supernatural beings, kinds of spirits that take on the form of people when they are summoned.
A Giant: Gigantic and colossal-sized humanoid myths can be found all over the world. Huge beings are said to have roamed the planet by many different cultures. Is there truth in these tales….. Nobody seems to know.
A Minotaur: The legend of the minotaur is a sad tale of a half-bull, half-man beast that was confined in an underground maze in Greco-Roman culture.
A Manticore: This fantastic creature originates from Persian mythology. Traditionally, the Manticore should have a human head, the body of a lion, and the tail of a scorpion.
A Chimera: The fearsome Chimera comes from Greek mythology. It has a goat’s body, a snake’s tail, and a lion’s head. It is also said to be able to breathe fire.
A Centaur: This fabled animal from Greek antiquity has the lower body of a horse and the upper body of a man. They were said to symbolise chaos and were fond of wine, which made them do crazy things after drinking too much.
A Phoenix: These birds of fire exist in many ancient cultures. They are said to rise from ashes and be born again once they pass. They come from ancient Greece, Rome, and possibly ancient Egypt.
An Orc: These monsters are well-known from Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. They are generally unattractive, aggressive brutes on the wrong side of good.
Satyrs: These creatures were companions of the Greek god Dionysus and were therefore associated with music, fun, and revelry. The well-known ancient god Pan was also depicted in the same way as a satyr.
Unicorns: In the Middle Ages, people thought these strange creatures really existed. A horse-like animal that had a long, protruding horn with a spiral at the front of its head. They were often depicted in Medieval art and were regarded as symbols of purity. They were also thought at the time to have inhabited India, where a very similar unicorn mythology existed in 200 BC, according to some accounts.
