Conversation Questions with Adverbs of Manner
Adverbs of manner are used to show how things are done. They add extra details to English sentences and questions. For English language learners, they are a great asset to build, as they make sentences much more descriptive and improve the complexity of both speaking and writing.
These discussion questions with adverbs get students talking in interesting ways. They can also be used by just about anyone who wants to get to know someone else a little bit better.
Both the printables have a picture description activity in which learners are to describe what is happening in the photographs using adverbs of manner. If we look at the first PDF above, for example, some practical sentences could be –
- The boy is hugging the rabbit lovingly.
- The woman is eating healthily.
- The man is painting creatively.
- He is happily watering the garden.
- The ballerina is gracefully dancing.
- The man is bravely surfing a huge wave.

Once your class has finished discussing the adverbs of manner questions, ask learners to circle all the adverbs on their worksheets. Once they have done this, they can do things such as arrange them in alphabetical order, use them to create sentences, or even write their own questions.
